I am starting a new thread, as these Cambridgeshire Sewells are not near Caxton and indeed the earliest I have traced is very close to the border with Suffolk - although, of course a later link may be there. The earlier details of this Sewell line, I believe to be correct- they are extracted from the parish registers held in the Cambridgeshire Records office, and checks were made at the time to verify correctness as far as possible. There is however no substantiating evidence from other records at this time. As you will see from this extract Hart men married females with Sewell connection, the name was also recorded as Sowell and Seawell, and a John Sole - possibly a relative, may have been threatened!

Notes for ELIZABETH SOWELL:
At enclosure in 1802 there was a widow, Elizabeth Hart, holding land and common rights, in Longmeadow. Given that Whybrow's burial on Jul 10 1785 is annotated "Parish", implying that he was interred at the expense of the Parish, it is perhaps unlikely that his widow would hold property, unless this was inherited after his death.

This is quite a way back in my own family history, but there were certainly Sewells in neighbouring villages when I was growing up. I hope the information may interest someone.
