I am the Saul Coordinator for The Sole Society.
In one way it is strange that I should find myself so involved as I have to go back to a 3 x great grandmother to find my Saul connection. Back to a marriage at Mundesley on 27 September 1801 between Mary Saul and Cubit Springall. Not only that but I can not be sure who Mary's parents were, as I have two candidiates for her baptism. So the only confirmed Saul on my family tree is Mary.
There were however many Sauls at Mundesley back as far as the middle of the 17th century. Some of them were people of some note who left wills and as copyhold tenants appear in the manorial records.
The Sauls at Mundesley had died out or moved away by the middle of the 19th century. The last Saul family there was Robert and Mary who were buried in 1834 and 1875 respectively.
I have had no contact with other descendants of the Mundesley Sauls and it would be nice to be able to correct this one day.
